History of Budaejjiggae

Budaejjiggae or Army Base stew is popular now.
Not only because of the delicious flavor, but also its story.

In 1950s, we had Korean war.
It made food more expensive and rare.

With effect of war, lots of South Korean suffer from malnutrition.
During the war, American military came to help South Korea.
They had brought American food such as sausages, ham, spam and macaroni etc.
Those food sometimes came out from the base as leftover food or through black market.
People living around the base cooked those with Kimchi and Gochujang as stew.
Until now it becomes the popular Korean stew, Buddae Jiggae :)
